What brand coat, boots and stuff do you guys wear in this extreme cold?
Snow boots, multiple layers (shirt, hoodie, zip hoodie, jacket is good), ear muffs, gloves. I'm in DuPage county, so we will get the brunt of it. It's already -1 outside now. It's really not so bad, just stay inside

I'm pretty sure more people die shoveling their driveways than freeze to death. There's more than enough churches, warming centers, etc. to keep the homeless warm.

For this weather, I have a Suit Supply peacoat (I'll wear a Patagonia vest underneath), North Face Apex gloves, winter hat from anywhere, scarf, and couple different pairs of boots from Sperry that I'll choose from.

The annoying part of this weather is having to spend the extra 10 minutes putting on this shite over my work clothes.

It's not really about a brand, it's more about layering.

Yep. Start with Under Armor and layer. If it's going to be windy and I have to be outside I'll also put a windbreaker on underneath a hoodie. It's amazing the help that a simple windbreaker can give in the layers.

A question for Chicago residents. How many people usually die in weather like this?

Will the deaths be more than normal?

It’s really not bad today at all if you prepare. I’m going to be a little late too work but warm as a bug for the most part. Got ear muffs, beanie, hood, and two scarves for my head and I have a ski jacket and ski gloves for the other parts.

Men survived on frozen battlefields in holes in the ground. They made it when it was so cold the ground froze and they had to build a fire just to thaw it out.

For years, all you could get my dad to say about WWII was how cold it was and that they didn't give them any clothing for the cold. He said they nearly froze most of the winter.

There will be deaths
Homeless people, carbon monoxide poisoning, fires from people using space heaters
They will more than likely open extra shelters, many will find abandoned homes or buildings
They are used to doing whatever is needed to survive, they know how to layer clothing, stay dry & out of the wind

I wonder what impact this has on shootings, this may be good for their crime stats. Or will we see an after the freeze revenge and catch up on shootings?

they been doing it for 50 years so why is today any different?

darwin takes those too stupid to make it and every last one of them is homeless by choice. they rather not work and pay rent because there is always some bleeding heart looking to take care of them.

No, this is historic cold due to the duration. It will be sub zero for a longer period of time than in Chicago’s history dating back til they first started recording in the 1800s. They’re expecting s few records to be broken. Every article I’ve seen on this is saying it’s going to be historic

The temperatures were mild all winter until two weeks ago, too, and likely to be fairly mild again in 2-3 days.

Bizarre stretch of weather.
