You would think cops would carry narcan by now.
Bad idea. They are not educated enough in medicine to use this. Let the Paramedics do their job.

What does illegal fentanyl look like? Powder/liquid/gel? I've only seen it in patches
If you have had surgery, unless you have allergy, you were given Fentanyl. It is just a clear liquid in a vial or glass ampoule that is given IV. Like stated before it is very respiratory depressing so it is very easy to overdose at home.

How educated does one need to be to use a nasal spray?

Fentanyl is prescribed by use of patches absorbed through the skin in a TIME RELEASED manner so, yeah, I would be skeptical about touching a large quantit They are prescribed in 25, 75, 100, & 150 MICROGRAMS.
Not milligrams as are all other medicines.
shite is dangerous.
Had experience with this shite.

Killed my son. It's a big deal to me.

Also, the stuff is dosed in micrograms. 1000mcg = 1 mg. Typical doses for trauma if you came in the ER after being on the wrong end of a baseball bat could range from 25-100 mcg, for context.

I know..
I'm talking about using them outside of a hospital environment without having at least a pulse ox monitoring you..

Fentanyl can be deadly just like Diprivan (Michael Jackson Drug.) Most people know what Morphine is. Well Fentanyl is 100 times stronger than Morphine. It dose not take much to make you stop breathing.

Narcan is going to royally piss off whoever you give it to and cause them to become combative and throw up. Really should avoid it unless the patient is absolutely dying and you cannot intubate/want to avoid intubation. I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with cops making that call yet- especially since they might use it as evidence the suspect actually took an opiate and just start giving it.

Those are mcg/hour. I think the 100 mcg/hr patch is around the same dose as 80 mg OxyContin bid. Still quite potent, but how pure is the random fentanyl on the street?

They would need a lot of training and be BLS and ACLS certified if they want to give rescue drugs in the field.

I put a 75mg patch on a while back. I was high for 3 days but didn't die. Also drank pretty heavily.

That's only if they are on opioids.

You have no idea what you are taking about. Narcan is only administered when someone is overdosing, so who gives a shite about the patients feelings when they are turning blue. And yes, I realize junkies get pissed when they wake up and all their opiod receptors have been blocked by a drug and their high is ruined.
You do know that you can walk into any pharmacy in LA and buy a nasal dose of narcan right? The state has an open ended script for anyone that thinks they may need it to go and get it.

I also have a question... if it can kill you just by touching little specs of it, how do people use it to get high without it killing them?

I'm not too up to speed on their training needed to do this, but I will tell you ACLS training won't give them the clinical acumen necessary to make the judgement call.
I remember a patient brought into my ER and I responded to the intubation code- heroin OD.
Paramedics gave him narcan in the field and had to re-sedate him after because he started fighting them. Doc was pissed. He asked how he was satting and if he ever lost a pulse. They said his 02 SATs were 88-95 but his respiratory rate was like 4-6. He yelled at them for like 5 minutes asking why they narcan'd a reasonably stable patient

They just better hope someone is around to administer it...lol

Yeah. It's not like flumazenil, the benzo antagonist that can induce seizures if given to a chronic benzo abuser. Opioid withdraw sucks, but doesn't cause seizures like etoh and benzodiazepines.

I don't live in LA, so no, I didn't know that.
