He'd probably have to get a new one altogether. Either an occupational license with the hours he can drive in the meantime or a new one when the time period is up. I'm not in LA so I maybe the occupational licesne thing is different.

i just think it benefits you more hurrying up and getting a new license bf its entered into the data base
Why? if the license is suspended then trying to get another one will do nothing for you.

Personally opinion.
For instance, yes its suspended in La. However, lets say you go to the Keys and want to rent a moped. They need a license and not an ID card or a paper saying you can drive.
Your license might be suspended in La, but I was able to rent a moped bc i had a license.

DMV. Should've had a better lawyer, and you wouldn't have lost your license
The paper one they give you is just an ID, not a driver's license

Congrats on the DWI. You're a POS
DWI's are more about revenue generation than public safety these days.

This. A license being suspended doesn't mean it can't be used for many other practical purposes.
OP, he should go to the DMV immediately to get a duplicate. If its been too long, and the suspension is in the system, he won't be able to get it but that's your only option other than waiting.

I always see people saying this, but if you get pulled over with a suspended license you are fricked anyway. A peice of plastic isn't going to help out
Oh wait the commercial tells me that once you get a DWI you lose your girlfriend.

Can't he just contact the local DMV office? Jeez, show a little initiative for pete's sake!

License is suspended for 90 days on a first offense.
In Louisiana that's if you blow. If you refuse to blow, it gets suspended for a year.
And I don't think you get it back, you just go get a new one after your suspension. His is also technically not suspended until he sees the judge and the judge starts his suspension. The cops should give you a temporary paper one until the hearing. Once it's suspended he can either not drive or apply to get a hardship license at which point he has to surrender his temporary license that was given to him. He should probably just get a lawyer who can explain/do this all for him.

So in this thread you have a great grandson and in the weed/cancer thread you have a dad who's still alive...am I missing the joke?

They give you a temp license on a piece of paper for 6 months then you have to get a hardship license

False. You will lose it no matter what. A good lawyer can't do shite to fight the DMV. He can fight the courts for the criminal portion but those are two different entities. All a good lawyer can do is prolong the suspension

So your great grandson got a DWI and your father has cancer? That is some impressive longevity in your family.
Posted on 3/22/17 at 12:38 pm to oldcharlie8
You just go to the DMV and get a new license. You don't physically get the same license back.
Posted on 3/22/17 at 12:39 pm to oldcharlie8
After the three month suspension you can go get one from the DMV. Even if you haven't satisfied all the requirements like community service. Since I plead not guilty and was in the process of pti they didn't even charge me the reinstatement fee. Just for a duplicate. Was like 50 bucks.
