Question about damaged merchandise by mail

We ordered a part (headlight assembly thingamijiggy) for our truck which was about $200. We received the order and immediately noticed a small broken clip on it before we even unpacked it.
We called them immediately and told them the issue. We simply asked for a new clip.
They replied that they would give me a $15 credit on my NEXT purchase - to which I replied " Well , I'm not looking to order any more broken shite so that is useless".
I told them I just wanted to return the whole order to them. They told me that they "do not accept broken merchandise". I replied "What a coincidence. I also don't accept broken merchandise, so come get your crap".
Finally these dumbasses give me back the credit on my card. They said someone will come get the merchandise (UPS, etc) in a few days.
Well it has been 3 weeks. How long do I have to hold this merchandise so they can come get it? 30 days or what?

What company are you dealing with?

I think it was carid.com or some place I never heard of.

I’d toss it. How will this delivery person know you’re home so they can retrieve it? They’ve made no attempt. Eff it.

Did they issue you an RMA, if not I wouldn't worry about keeping it.

When it's all said and done, would you have rather just bought the item in person, rather than sight unseen?

I've never used them, but they generally have great customer service ratings. It might be worth a follow-up phone call.

Don't listen to the stupid people. If they refunded you based on a return, it's THEIR property, even if it takes them a few weeks to get to it.
Hell, they're probably waiting 30 days just so they can charge your credit card again for failing to return their merchandise.
Call them and ask for the specific pickup date. If they're not going to get it at all, buy a clip from another vendor and use it.

How long is she obligated to store THEIR property?

As long as it takes to not be charged for failing to return it.
You're acting like it's some great goddamn inconvenience to put a headlight in a closet or your garage for a few weeks.

I dont know what an RMA is.
As for the other poster saying that they are waiting for ME to send it back or they will charge my card again... LOL, good luck with that. That is exactly why I use a prepaid card.

Their return policy is extremely simple.
Print the label. Drop it anywhere there is a UPS pickup or schedule one at your house.
Yeah. I forgot this is the OT. Not sure why I'd expect anyone in here to act ethically.

Not really. I truly DGAF. I’ve never returned anything where they said they’d come pick it up for me vs printing a label & dropping it at a UPS box.

Yeah I'm not lawyer, but there has to be some sort of limit.

I’ve never been told someone will come get it. It’s eother keep it or ship it to us.
I’d call to double check if I was supposed to drop it in the mail before tossing

Honestly, it's your fault for buying shite online.

I fail to see how it is unethical for me to prevent them for re-charging me for their broken parts.
Our agreement was that they would refund my card and come get the merchandise. I have the merchandise packed and waiting, I have held up my end of the bargain.
All I wanted was for them to send me the clip so the part could be used. That seems reasonable. to me but unacceptable to them. Even a small credit of $15 to my credit card would have worked for me but they insisted I could only be given a $15 credit for my NEXT order.
I am NOT being unethical. They offered to refund my order and let me keep the broken part but I told them that I wasn't trying to get anything free, I simply wanted what I paid for.
