Question about changing majors at LSU

My daughter is will be a sophomore in the fall. Wants to change her major from finance to biology (as a predicate to medical school). She has taken the biology classes (1001 and 1002) for non-science majors, and business calculus. Made A's in all three.
Is she going to have to essentially retake freshman biology and calc for science majors, or is there some mechanism for giving her credit for that? Thanks.

She should just stay in finance and take the premed classes. Would require her to retake biology but most likely not have to retake calc.

She should go talk to an academic advisor for science majors. I think the answer will be yes, she has to retake those classes.

She might have to retake that. It's going to be a pre-req for other classes. The non-science major one's will likely not count. She may be able to get special permission from the department to take the courses without the pre-req and possibly get credit for the bio she did take. But it won't happen without her going talk to someone face to face. And still might not happen. Don't know how strict they are about that in that department.

I'd go ahead and get her to retake them anyway. Med schools most likely won't accept a non-major biology course. Even if LSU lets her graduate without retaking this may limit the possible med schools she can go to which is the last thing you'd want to do.

So she is switching from a non science major to a science major, and you think a class for non science majors should supersede a class for science majors? She is going to be a science major. Logical thinking dictates that she will have to take classes for science majors

That's true. I never had to deal with someone nit-picking my transcript to get accepted into a graduate level program. This is what summer school is good for.

She'll have to retake the two biology classes and the labs that go with them. She shouldn't have to retake calc. I don't think she can get into biochem or even micro without biology for science majors.

As far as I know Calc is NOT a requirement for medical schools. Just some basic math and eventually a Stats course. The biology though im not sure since nonscience and science major bios are different.

She'll have to take 1201, 02, etc. all the classes that are set for that major. She can check that herself on her degree audit under myLSU.
Also, don't call the registrars office about classes. Call a counselor in the College of Science.

MATH 1550 is a requirement for a biology degree. Any BS will require real calculus.

Kinesiology doesn't. Just math 1021 and 1022
