i tell people this story all the time:

I fixed a tundra one time to the tube of about $16k in damages. 5 or 6 years later, the customer calls me and tells me the clear is peeling. I ran a carfax to see if it was involved in any other accidents. There were zero accidents listed including the one I repaired.

As far as I can’t tell, the only accidents that get reported are the ones that go through the dealership. All service performed by the dealership shows on the carfax report- oil changes, repairs, etc.
