these sites are just a big government conspiracy to get you dna on file.
It sounds like a nutty conspiracy theory, but their is some truth to it imo.

Just go to findagrave.com if you just want names and birth/death dates. There's some other info too like if someone fought in a war.

That site is legit. I used it for mine last week and found some awesome photos.

My uncle in 1860's went to pick up his brother from a bar late at night and ended up getting stabbed to death leaving behind 4 kids and a wife. Pretty amazing how they have that stuff on file and digitized to boot.

Th03

Are you saying that you have lots of 3rd and 4th cousins?

That happens when people are isolated.
The Ashkenazi Jews.
Appalachia.

my question.

There are so many elements to DNA that you can populate the map with dots representing where that DNA is first encountered, and appears in a cluster. If you have those markers you get a dot in Nepal, or east Umbria.

Is that how the dots are generated?

It says you have 1% from location X. Same question, different representation.

Just wait til you find out he’s not so tan because of your wife’s “Italian great grandfather”

My son did, I have ha hard time believing most of what they said. I am a LOT German, and my FIL is 100% native American. DNA said he had none or little of both.

I've got a question about 23 and me.

They graph using dots over a map.
For example. My sister got it done. She got percentages and dispersion.
My question is about the dots.
What do they mean?
There are a few countries with most of her dots and some dots spread out thinner.
Do tell.

Each dot represents a person who you share DNA with who reported they had 4 grandparents from those countries.

Keep in mind that ancestory and nationality are two different things. Your ancestors could be German but that doesn't mean they were always German. Also:

It is important to note that even if an individual in your family tree was considered to be Native American, your own DNA may not reveal the Native American ancestry because evidence is lost each generation.

My moms maiden name is ridiculously uncommon. Great grandfather came over from Germany at 13 durin WWI. Everyone in the US with that name is my family as far as we know and everyone my grandpa has found in Germany is as well. There’s probably less than 50.

My last name is fairly young too. There was a name change at some point to “Americanize” it IIRC.

I have done the ancestry thing, so I know who was born where and when, but I am damn sure not Irish like they told him.

You know where they're from how far back?

And genealogy isn't an exact science. One unfaithful wife can throw off whole branches.

It is maintained by its users.
You can make an account and submit graves and stories.

I have an ancestor buried on modern day timber land that some guy found, photographed, and posted. It is awesome.

You only need to pay for one account to do whatever you want.

If you're talking DNA tests, the heritage estimates supposedly can vary by individuals even within the same generation. So each individual would need to submit their own sample.
