Check living social or vacation express. I saw some great deals this week with direct flights from Nola included.

We stayed at Al Sol Luxury Village (Cap Cana Marina), which was fairly nice. I'd recommend somewhere close to Bavaro Beach. Melia resort seems to be nice.

I stayed at Paradisus Palma Real based on a rec from this board 6 years ago. Beautiful resort - top notch. DR is beautiful, but not somewhere I would vacation more than once. If you're happy with staying on the resort the entire trip, you'll be very satisfied. If you're someone that wants to venture out, you will be disappointed.
