I'm starting to lean in this direction as well. Local politicians can have advisory positions but can't actually make decisions or distribute funds.

NOLA.com reporting SWB is being privatized at the mayor's direction. I cannot tell you what a huge blow this is to Mitch's constituent base.

A third party is temporarily taking over management is what he just said.

So overpaid contractor handpicked by the Mayor.

He's now making fun of the city.

Gray asked if he will use local engineering firms and labor to fix these issues.

Mayor's response:

He just laughed out loud and said "I have to get out of state contractors to fix this *laugh* if someone is in this city that can fix it *laugh* I'd love to talk to them.

The NOLA.com article doesn't say that it's temporary. And I pray to God it's not.

Sorry if you've caught it. There doesnt seem to be a cure for it yet.

Damn you...there's more important stuffs to do like getting rid of statues, allowing transgender bathrooms, climate fixes, etc.etc.! Pumps and crime are pretty far down the list for idiot Liberals!

Yeah, it's not like SLA's main economic income comes from refining industries that handle shite like piping and pumps or anything.

from that 2008 article, I posted on the last page about the massively inflated pump price.

quote:

Darren Torres, a project manager for Boh Bros. Construction, one of the bidders, said that FEMA's estimate "sounds more like the norm" for such equipment.

Glen Smith, a salesman for Parson & Sanderson, declined to comment on Stackpole's assertions.

"You'll have to talk to the Sewerage & Water Board about that," he said when asked why the board required Fairbanks Morse pumps. "We bid to the specs. They put them out."

Torres said that while Parson & Sanderson's price on the pumps in this case seemed high, he had had no problems with the supplier in the past.

"I've always felt they've given me more than a fair price," he said.

quote:

With no other supplier able to meet the requirements for the Sewerage & Water Board job, Parson & Sanderson faced no competition in setting its price. The company quoted a price of $896,850 to contractors seeking the job from the water board, contractors confirmed.
quote:

In his letter to the water board, Stackpole called his competitor's price "inflated" and said he can provide Yeomans Chicago pumps, which compete with the Fairbanks Morse brand, for half as much: $457,000. Stackpole notes that his price is very close to the $450,000 that FEMA estimated the pumps would cost.

This privatization won't be a good talking point for him in his Presidential campaign.

"Failure of government saved by privatization of vital infrastructure" does not bode well for Democrats.
