When I was a child I loved fireworks. I’m also a patriot. Then PTSD happened and I really don’t like fireworks (they remind me of gunfire).
Just wondering if I’m alone in this world?

The combat vets that i know are all piss drunk blowing a week's pay in sweat shop explosives in their driveway.

I dealt with it for the fire service not military. Sorry you are going through this and I mean this, go to therapy. And if you have, keep going

You're not alone, buddy. But seek out more than this forum offers.

I grew up in Baton Rouge so they remind me of home.

My dad was a Vietnam vet and he suffered from PTSD as well. We didn’t do fireworks but he didn’t mind others doing them around us.

There’s a LOT of people just like you.

PTSD isn’t a joke. Seek help if you haven’t already. Fireworks and loud booms are just the tip of the iceberg.

I did not serve in a time of war so fortunately I didn't experience anything traumatic. But Brother always know you are not alone. Hopefully some fellow Veterans who did see action can give you some encouraging words. Again, you are not alone, never feel that way.

All you have to do is put a box fan next to wherever you're sitting and turn the TV up and you can't hear anything outside. I learned this trick after my neighbor got chickens.

I just pretend the noise is from my Abrams tank firing 120 mm sabot rounds of freedom. I slept many nights next to tanks firing all n8ght and Palafin howitzers doing their gun bunny shite.

The 120mm tracers made it look like the greatest fireworks show on the planet.

I'd give anything to jump my old arse on an Abrams again and deliver freedom one main gun round at a time.

"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more"

I’m doing exactly that bro, with my AC running also. Maybe I should blast some white noise on my TV. I can still hear the explosions unfortunately.

Best friend was wounded in Desert Storm. Lives in DC. The flyovers have been tough on him today, but he would never not want others to see it.

Agreed buddy. I love the spirit of the 4th and am grateful that others enjoy fireworks. It’s just not my thing. I want to dig a big hole and bury myself

Not too late to run to wal mart and get some noise canceling headphones.

Or pop some ear plugs in. Better yet do both.

Sorry to hear that man. Hang in there. The sun will come up tomorrow and there's always hope for a brighter day.

I do too, but due to tinnitus, I also run white noise while sleeping.
