After the hard rain we got last night expect the termites to swarm this weekend. Happens every year around mother's day like clockwork.

But remember it’s termite heritage month. You can observe but be respectful. This is a good time to think about the benefits you get from your human privilege.

Termite season

Welcome to the *official* start of the 5-6 most disgusting months of the year.

Starts with flying termites, brutally hot and miserable the whole time, ends with hurricanes.

But then comes that first crisp Saturday morning during football season.

True, but sometimes hurricanes ruin this too.

I had to watch the Tulane/OU and LSU/UCLA games from a shitty hotel in Mobile last year during my 9-day evacuation waiting for the power to be restored.

Ahh yes. Coincides with my wonderful summer power bill.

PSA: Buy yellow lights from stores. Termites don't bother with em. Already got the living room and bedroom lamp loaded up.

This is great advice.

A neighbor told me to switch my porch light to a yellow ‘bug light’ about 10 years ago. It’s incredible how it goes from being a bug magnet to them not interested.

Are you talking yellow yellow lights or just the warmer tone option for flood lights?

They are talking about yellow lights specifically designed not to attract bugs. Google “ outdoor yellow bug light”

Nothing fills me with rage quite like the summer in New Orleans. Humid as frick, termites, shitty sports, crawfish is done, rain every fricking afternoon, impossible to cut the grass while trying to dodge said rain, hurricanes, sweating while walking to your car, energy bill through the roof.

The only redeeming factor about summer is being able to go to the beach. That's it.

I fricking hate May-August with a passion.

My least favorite thread on TD. I hate those little bastards. Never had any problems with these things until about 7 years ago.

When termite swarms start showing up on weather radar, that’s when you know it’s time to move

AKA the time when people mindlessly call the pest control companies to make sure they’re not being infested. $$$
