Sad story..much of Yellowstone and the lake is a huge volcano caldera. Below the lake, about 2 miles, is the largest magma deposit in North American. The geysers, thermal pools, etc. are releasing energy. The heat at the surface is a portent of the extreme heat below. The park is a great place to explore. It's 2.2 million acres. If you stay only on the roads, you might see about 2-3% of the park. If you do go exploring, it's wild. Death can come quickly. Do your homework; be prepared. Grizzlies, wolves, and buffalo abound. I lived in Cody for about 6 years. Every summer, tourists would be med evac'd to Park County Hospital by helicopter. Buffalo gorings were the majority, some elk. I remember when some halfwit tried to set his grandson on a buffalo to get a picture. I think the little boy was ok, but Grandpa ended up 12 feet high tangled in the limbs of an evergreen with broken ribs, punctured lung, etc. They look peaceful while grazing, but if they look at you, you're bothering them. Back off. You won't outrun them. And yes, stay on the boardwalks.

She got a little burned scooping out a few potatoes, corn, sausage, and mushrooms.
Park rangers also found a small bottle of a liquid, heretofore unknown at Yellowstone.
