The tunnel is clear as of 6:45 am. Note pictures will update as they are from AL DOTD. So, if you check this post later and there is traffic, it is on you.

It's so sad to drive through there, knowing it's the spot where Princess Diana died.

That was in France or are talking about another “Princess” Diana from Mobile.

Well...now is probably too late. For most of the posters in LA they should have left between 1-4 am.

I took a tour of that tunnel once. It was pretty cool. They brought us into the hallway where the vents are that push air through the tunnel to keep it fresh. They kicked the air up to 60 mph so we could all lean forward.

That is pretty cool. I saw the Mobile Historic Preservation Society used to schedule tours with AL DOTD. AL DOTD also does school and other group tours too.

Go check out the USS Alabama and the military park.
There's multiple museums.
Hell you can take the kids to race go karts and mini golf. Ripley's is always fun.
Bring an ice chest and make groceries for the trip.
I can think of a dozen easy ways to burn 8 hours.
I hate getting stuck in traffic

I haven't used either tunnel in 20 years. Africatown bridge and HWY 98 are well worth the detour to avoid those damned tunnels. I've saved more time than I've lost.

Since you through early, stop at the battleship park, stop at the list of sailors. Leave a cigarette next to and tip your hat to the name Howard E Holmes. Then your drinks willl be stronger and time will be better at the beach.

Who is the guy that started the thread a few weeks back about going to the beach was the worst experience of his life?
Posted on 7/4/25 at 7:39 am to Tarps99
The beaches to the east are not near as nice as those to the west, around St. Pete and Clearwater.

T'wasn't me.
My family thinks it's the best thing since bottled beer, but not me.
I don't understand the appeal for sitting in the sand in 95° weather, getting a sunburn and staring at the ocean for 8 miserable hours like it's a big TV screen. The channel never changes.
