All blood donated with The Blood Center (TBC) is being tested for COVID-19 antibodies beginning Tuesday June 2, 2020. This free service informs the donor if they carry the COVID-19 antibody which has been used via plasma transfusions to help critically ill patients battling the coronavirus.
Donors need to schedule their donations in order to practice social distancing and insure a safe, stable blood supply. Results post 48 hours after a completed blood donation. Donors need to visit TheBloodCenter.org and log into My Account for their results.
Donors who test positive for COVID-19 antibodies may be eligible to donate COVID Convalescent Plasma (CCP). “We’ve seen promising results from patients who’ve received CCP, but there’s only a few recovered patients who are eligible to give at this time” says Dr. Tim Peterson, Medical Director for The Blood Center. “The scarcity of donors with the COVID antibody make this test extremely beneficial to patient care.” Testing also provides statistics to the Louisiana Department of Health about what percentage of the population was exposed to COVID-19.

Good to know. I’ll be donating this week if that’s the case

Yes just missed it from life share. Giving blood is a good thing. I donate as often as I can.

Is that Louisiana only? I’d get in on that over here for Texas
Was thinking about donating anyway

The Blood Center is in Southeast Louisiana. Check with your local blood bank, they may be doing it.

You all do realize at this exact moment it doesn't mean anything if you have antibodies to Covid correct?
We do not know what level of antibodies are needed to achieve the response to make a person immune.
That is how vaccines / titer checks work. You need to hit a minimum amount of antibodies. We currently don't know what that level is. Unless you just are curious, you are wasting your time currently (other than donating blood which is a good thing).

Do you even B cell, brah?
If your body has developed an immune response, then it can ramp it back up within 72 hour or so of reinfection (clock even starts before symptoms and leads to milder symptoms if they occur).
Compared to weeks of illness before you develop a novel antibody.
So the presence of any antibody titer means you can ramp it up.
Your point would mean more if you meant we don’t know for sure how much of a dose of refined antibodies from plasma is therapeutic. Still dumb, but less so.

You do realize that this information should not change your life at all.
You are expected to do the exact same social distancing at work, etc whether you get the test or not. You don't have a social pass to go back to normal. That is what I am talking about.
Getting reinfected and shedding virus can happen if you have antibodies present.
If you are thinking I am saying "you are going to die!" I am not. I am saying this liberal pussy arse "EVERYONE THAT WANTS A TEST SHOULD GET ONE" is fricking dumb. It does no good at this point.

Anyone know if the Red Cross is doing this?
