What a horrible problem. Anyone experience it? My wife has been dealing with this for almost 5 weeks with no relief. Found out a 24 year old has it in both eyes.
Never wear contacts with possible contact of any kind of water.

Ok, sorry. My wife had what looked like an eye irritation, went to her optometrist who said it looked like a scratch. Gave her steroids. Went back 3 times in 2 weeks and kept upping the steroids.
Finally convinced her on 2nd opinion and ophthalmologist recommended valtrex even though she never had cold sores or fever blisters. Slacked off on steroids.
That was a Friday, on Monday, he said you have to see a specialist. Went to cornea specialist and he sent her to see one in new Orleans to do a confocular microscope. Came out positive. Had to order medicine from new Zealand cause fda doesn't approve.

She stays under covers because of light sensitivity. Found out there is a young guy local who has it in both eyes.

TAKE OUT YOUR CONTACTS NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF WATER YOU ARE GOING INTO..
She never showered or swam in hers and may lose sight in her right eye.

It's bad stuff... I hope your wife makes a full recovery. This tends to be a fairly rare infection which does you and your wife no good. The percentage of patients that need a corneal transplant after this type of infection is very high. I pray your wife heals, there are some excellent cornea docs at Tulane, Dr. Caldwell being the best IMO.

We have seen Dr Kennedy and Dr Bernal. One of them have said that steroids help the amoeba and she was on steroids for 2weeks. I am afraid it is too late and she has lost vision. They did the poke test and she flinched once out of 7. They said the amoeba should make it more sensitive.

They are fine doctors, you are in as good of hands as you can be in. At this point don't get too down, keep up the fight. Do whatever it takes to get the medicine from the compounding pharmacy ASAP and take it. It's rough stuff but it kills Acanthamoeaba.
All is not lost yet, you still have options and by options I don't mean surgery. Hold the course with the treatment and days that she doesn't feel worse are a sign of improvement. Days that she feels better are a huge sign of improvement even if it's just a little. I think you know who I am from the OB, if so please feel free to call or text, if not let me know I'll put something up over there to reach me.

I make my own saline solution. It's a family recipe dating back to the 1700s.
