Looking for our resident Hank Hill.

My last can of Blue Rhino burned nice and blue.

I just switched over to Amerigas and this tank is burning blue-orange and not as hot.

What brands are good (Strickland) and which are shite (Thatherton)?

Depends on the local source not the brand name as to how much propane and how much butane in the LPG mixture. It's actually LPG not straight propane.

IMHO you are better off using places that refill your tank instead of swapping out. For example Tractor Supply, KOA, uHaul, smaller hardware stores etc.

Do you swap em out? If so you're paying double.

I pay 1.99 at my local propane source.

Only use swap outs when you need a new updated bottle.

Swap outs here are only $18. You are saying you get refills for $2 ?

Butane has almost 50% hotter flame than propane.

I'm guessing $2 a gallon. A 20 lb tank holds 4.7 gallons for $9.40. Swap out tanks usually have about 15 lbs or 3.5 gallons.

They all get their Propane out of the same Pipeline.Probably the same Delivery Driver fills up the Local Propane Business's Storage Tanks.

One thing that can happen is that they overfill your Cylinder. It won't burn right,or maybe not at all, until the Propane/Oxygen mixture is right.

Propane Tanks,of any size, are only supposed to be filled to 80%.

one trick to try, is there is a screw on the side of the propane valve. Unscrew it slowly and it should vent some of the propane out do this outdoors or in a well ventilated area. It will be cold so wear gloves. once you vent it for about 1-2 seconds, screw the purge screw back in. Now see if it is burning the correct color. We have to do this many times on job sites when using grass burners for heating up gears especially on swap out tanks that have sat for awhile.
