Of course it is not illegal and the minority set aside requirements gives their connections the legal room to pay them a bunch more for their work than a legitimate, experienced company.

Unlike RayRay the Landrieus are going to make sure the laws and contracts are in place to make them rich off the government deals.

I think Mary had ownership in a clean up company after one of the hurricanes before Katrina.

I hope it turns out well. new Orleans may be small by iconic city standards, but it deserves a better airport than the shitty one it has.

And better leaders, better schools, better citizens, etc. etc. etc.

I think it's fricking insane that construction of the roads to it from the interstate won't start until 2022.

it's a great location of you build roads to it.
Right now the Esplanade mall has a dedicated exit, even though it also gets two turning lanes off Williams a quarter mile from the interstate exit to Williams.
So demo the exit to the mall. Run a road over the i10, to Bainbridge. And voila, exit to the airport.

The bigger boondoggle/opportunity for corruption is the airport hotel deal

I think he's referring to the World Trade Center project.
They've had two fck ups that slowed this down. First the city decided to throw out the winning bid and start over for stupid reason.
Then some arse clown with nothing better to do filed a lawsuit about the latest winning proposal. I think that's about cleared up now.

I don't understand what the issue is here. This airport absolutely needed to happen. People complain about New Orleans being a dump, then when we build something nice and new, all of a sudden the "old one was just fine"

As far as the contractors chosen to build the project, there are only a handful of contractors with the resources to build this terminal. Do you really want some debt-ridden po-dunk mom and pop contractor in charge of this?

Can’t wait to see how they do traffic dumping airport traffic now onto Vets instead of Airline.

I disagree. Airport traffic that wants to go to Vets currently does via service road without ever getting on Airline. Traffic will be the same. Those that want to get to Airline will take the service road.

They bring particular specific expertise to this complex project.

That's not an office building. That's a hotel.
Maybe the plaza?
