It's just a trade-off you have to decide on. Deal with public for more money and time. Or save the time and hassle with a trade-in.

Find a dealer that accepts KBB online value outright for trades. Done.

Sorry but you are wrong considering the context I'm using here...
The actual act of sale is when it would be called private sale. Referring to it as a subject it's private sell. Maybe before correcting someone, be sure you know what you are talking about.

Bought a new car at the dealership. They were only willing to give me $1700 for my 06 Lincoln. Sold it for $3100.

What is the exact process for selling a car privately? Get the money then go to a title place with the buyer? Or go to the DMV?

I sold my last car to a guy (private car dealer) that does this radio show in Houston. I think it is givemethevin.com is his website. My bluebook value was around 6k and I wanted 5k (electrical issues due to driving in high water). I got 4,500, but sold it with no questions or hassles. It was pretty simple..

my vehicles are usually pretty old when I buy a new one, so they are not worth very much. the difference between private sale and trade is only a couple of hundred bucks, if your current vehicle is old and that is not worth the hassle to me.
