It never fails. There is always someone from each school that wants to talk about how much more their kid is learning. How they work so much harder at this school over that school. How their kid is taking sophomore level math in 8th grade. Whatever the latest BS is. Really, you are up to speed with how much homework those kids that are "outside playing" have? You think you know the situation? My son plays soccer on a team full of kids from St George, St Jude, Episcopal, and St Aloysius. They all talk about what they have to do and it's all the same crap. I understand you want to feel better about the school you chose and the tuition you are paying. But you don't have to blow smoke up your own arse and everyone else's to try and feel better about it.
Well you conveniently left out the rest of my post but that's ok. I'm well aware of what other schools do as I have friends with children at each schools you mentioned. Some do a lot more than others and as I said my kids have all had to work for their grades and the work ethic they show has paid off in the aftermath of high school.
I don't worry about tuition because I have the money so it's not something I have to feel better about. Why can't anyone on here just accept that not everyone is worried about money? Plenty of people on this board are professionals who make a lot of money and affording private school is not really a sacrifice.
Hope your kid gets that soccer scholarship you're looking for though.

Welll...excuse me MONEY BAGS. I only hope my son can scrape through Catholic and make it into BRCC. You know, since they were outside playing instead of doing all of that homework.
Hey, just curious, did your kids learn about illicit generalizations and making broad statements based on insufficient sample sizes?
Here is an example: Episcopal kids are all so dumb it takes them forever to do their homework. I know this because a guy on the internet told me his kids couldn't play outside because they always had to do their homework.
At least they'll have all of your money to fall back on.
And, sorry your kids sucked at sports? Is that how we do this?

Good for you. I guess you spend the rest of your money on martinis and eating and losing weight from all you ate. You high-lifer, you.

What about St Jude off Highland? Pros/ Cons??
Whoa, there's a good reason folks keep St. Jude on the down low and out of these discussions. St Jude is full and we don't need anyone else enrolling and messing with the vibe.
Just forget all about St. Jude. Nothing to see there. See thread for other great options at all the best schools in town.

keep hearing this. many people love it---but i have a few concerns. didn't see a music program (band, strings, choir) listed on website, and wasn't sure how the Catholic sacraments fit into school. Ie where do they make First Communion, etc?
I would recommend you go check it out. It may or may not be a fit for what you are looking for.
It's different from St. George for many reasons. Size is one major difference. There are positives and negatives with that. You are going to get class sizes of about 15 at CHA. St. George will have a lot more money to spend on things like choir, band, etc. I will say that the sports offerings at CHA are very strong for a school its size. It regularly competes with the other catholic schools.
As for the catholic aspect of the school, in short, CHA is VERY Catholic. It's not a part of the Diocese. It's private. All sacraments are received in your normal parish. However, catholicism is entrenched all aspects of the school.
I think it's a great school with great academics. To me, that is what is most important. Having said that, one of the most impressive things you will find about CHA is the quality of families and staff. It's truly tremendous. It's a private school where you will basically find ZERO pretentiousness. You'll have kids who are somewhat wealthy mixed in with kids are are not.
Basically, you have to go check it out. It may not fit what you want. However, I think you'll be hard pressed to find many complaints of those who choose it.

I'd also like to add that we have friends with kids in many of the other Catholic schools(St. Jude, St. George, SJV) and, to be honest, it seems like they are all in great situations.

Why does everyone get so worked up about the money? I have plenty of friends with kids at Catholic and they can afford to pay for Episcopal if they wanted. They don't-because they are all Catholic. I'm not. I'm almost 60 years old, I've worked for 40 years, am I supposed to be ashamed because I choose to spend my money on my childrens education? Because we have invested in their school, are active and happy with the end results? I don't have a Porche or a vacation home, hell I don't even have my LSU football tickets anymore. But what I also do not have is college tuition. Not for one, not a dime, nor are my kids saddled with student loans because I was and I made a commitment to not allow my kids to have to work the first ten years of their adult life to pay a debt. I've always just looked at it as a good investment. Sorry if you see it different however I think you should go back and reread my posts. I was in no way making fun of other kids. But to each his own. Good luck at Catholic, it's a great school and I know exactly 12 lawyers who went there.

Awesome contribution. I am scheduled to go, and we have good friends who just told us they decided to send their 2 year old there next year for the 2 y/o day program. Said they were impressed.
Anyway, thanks to all who contributed.

I don't have kids, but if I do, I'm moving out of br. I can't imagine paying to send my kid to an elementary school. I mean seriously? You can teach your kids that shite at home.

My comment about money wasn't a slam. Everyone wants to feel that they are getting value for their money. You got defensive about the $$$ and wanted to tell everyone how that money was "nothing" to you.
My point was that your post was ridiculous. Especially now that we know that your kids have been out of episcopal for, 10, 15 years? Your statement about the kids being able to play outside because they didn't have homework like your Episcopal kids...that was ridiculous. If believing that makes you feel better, congrats? But it is just stupid.

Episcopal is favorite thus far..very impressive academics and curriculum. But it didn't seem to boast a lot of diversity.
That's generally the point of sending your kids to private school, no?

two kids still there two out.
Whatever. As I said, enjoy Catholic.

My nieces go there too. We live in Central School district and a neighbor told us their girls are going to St. Josephs and was saying how expensive it is. I said why not go to St. Michael's. She said, "St. Michael's is basically Central High with Catholic religion". I was like ouch.
That is a very accurate description of St. Michael's. The kids there do not come out as polished and connected at the kids that go to CHS/SJA/EHS. It's basically between sending your kid to school with lower middle class plant workers and contractors and sending them to school with upper middle class doctors and lawyers and CPAs' kids.

I have friends who sent their kids there and got caught up in the athletics and keeping up with the Joneses etc. Once their kids graduated they realized they made a huge mistake. Granted these might be isolated cases but they feel as though they certainly didn't get their money's worth.
For high school, EHS or CHS are the way to go IMO.

Regardless of where you want to go I think UHS is the best school in town. If you can get in that is. The IB program is hands down the best program in the state.
