You know how I know that it is severe weather season without knowing it is severe weather season?

I just saw the first carpenter bee of the year. And dammit....my paddle is in the shop.

Whacking carpenter bees is an old past time of mine. I keep count throughout the Spring and Summer, or try to. I had a shoulder injury last year that really hampered my average.

if I may be so bold as to suggest another divertissement for when you heal...

badminton raquet-launching sweet gum balls into the neighbor's yard is quite satisfying

I hate to be that guy but would it be worthwhile to tie down or move outdoor furniture, cover cars, or do whatever other preparations for tonight? Or just treat it like a normal night? In Baton Rouge

Id move the car under cover, just in case.

On the tornado side, its a case of if one spins up it could be strong but i dont know if it happens and especially as far west as BR.

I think he just mentioned it to give people a heads up, and just added that a Day 8 risk is fairly rare. I don't think he was trying to hype the event up or say that he already thinks it will be a high end event. In fact, he has said all week that it was too early to be specific about next week's threat for Alabama. As he said even this morning, we need to get through the Friday severe wx threat before we focus too much on next week.

Man, watching those storms fire on the boundaries within that low out in Oklahoma is something. Nothing amazing yet, but some hailers are going.

I'm gonna say it......

As it moves into AL tomorrow, it sure looks Derechoish. Impressive line on the HRRR.

And then the second round of discreet cells. Here's to hoping for no sunshine after the line tomorrow morning.

They deboarded and will get the next update at 8:00. He’s flying in from Arkansas…

Special Weather Update for DFW just now and it’s getting a little weird outside:

At 712 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Pilot Point, or 16 miles east of Sanger, moving northeast at 45 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Sherman, Celina, Pilot Point, Van Alstyne, Howe, Gunter, Dorchester and Southmayd.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM CDT for north central Texas. && MAX HAIL SIZE...0.75 IN; MAX WIND GUST...40 MPH

Was that the storm that had it looking like night time at 8 in the morning? I was living in Lafayette at the time and was driving to work as that was moving in. Absolutely eerie
