You should bring back the Dunce Cap. Public humiliation is a powerful motivator.

I did that once my first year. An angry principal and mother disabused me of the efficacy of the punishment.

That's a shame. That shite works. Kids don't want to be humiliated in front of their peers. If they know they would be humiliated because of their behavior they would misbehave less. It's simple psychology.

The quality of teaching needs to get better.

I would encourage anyone who is still in college pursuing a degree in education to change your major now. It will save you money and hassle down the road. It is simply not worth it.

The problem is many of these kids have so little parental involvement or love in their lives they seek attention by any means necessary. Quite a few of them are willing to be humiliated if only to have their existence noticed.
JRoyce- One issue that has arisen is it is becoming increasingly more difficult to be effective. There could be fewer quality teachers simply because the ability level that is required to be considered a "quality teacher" is much higher. With few classroom management issues, administrative support, involved and educated parents and motivated pupils it is quite easy to be a quality teacher. Without those, it is very difficult.

Virtual reality classrooms will make teachers a thing of the past!

Must be frustrating.

If I had a nickle for every time someone tried to persuade me out of my education major i'd be a millionaire.

I've always advocated merit pay. Will never happen though.

It is an extremely complex issue.

Teachers today do more, with less, than ever.

More male teachers!!! That would help a ton with the discipline issues.
I also think every school should hire a retired Marine drill instructor just to walk the halls and rule with an iron fist.

Teachers work, at most, 8 months out of the year.
There's no doubt many choose the profession for the extended breaks and vacations.
Dumbass.

I'm sure. I just have a few in the family and I know the system is beyond repair at this point. Good luck.

Probably means less parental involvement and the children are less capable.

Because their services are worth more to the market than teacher's are. It's pretty fricking simple.
Dumbass

WTF does this even mean?

None of that should be part of a teacher's training.
