You need to reevaluate the word fact.

Hoodrats, and all kids that are violent and constantly cause distractions, should never have a teacher like that. They need to be separated from kids that want to learn and go to a school with male teachers. If they don't attempt to learn there and stop acting out that should be it for them and we should just lock them up and keep them locked up forever if you want to be nice but the truth is we should just put them down if we REALLY wanted our society to be better off.

A: it's a fact that education majors aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer...see the link...you PERSONALLY may be a rocket scientist, but as a whole, teachers score lower than any other degree on GMAT..and you're a history major, not education major. History majors scored pretty high ;)

B: see item C: I know it's absurdly hard to deal with idiot kids and idiot administrators. My point is that with generally not so smart people dealing with a very challenging environment, we're going to see fail.

Sure, but this is the Internet and I'm not running for political office so that's my opinion. There simply needs to be more male role models in these kids lives. They're not getting it at home. I'd pay a male teacher with zero formal education training more than I would pay a female with a master's degree in education.

Is it, though? 80% of teacher nationally are white females. This is a poor representation of America. In higher education, blacks are paid more and hired over more qualified whites to create a balanced playing field. How would this be different?

I know this would never pass, it is an interest question.

Sounds like you have some other issues. Did you have "problems" at school? Please don't toss a blanket over an entire profession.

I understand your point. My response was a result of how touchy and defensive all of us in this profession have become.

as noted in my ETA, good teachers are GOLD and my apologies to them for my generalization...I had a few great teachers and my kids have had a few, and those men and women were INCREDIBLE and had a profound and lasting effect on me.....BUT, as a profession in general, it's in pretty bad shape...

and to answer your question about how long I would last......about 10 minutes probably.

cheers

It is now. So much for higher standards. 25% of teachers around here aew working without a degree. The degree ones are quoting and doing something else. One school just had 13 walk out two weeks ago. Didn't even finish the year

Absolutely agree. I am writing my thesis on this now. The large amount of baby boomer teacher retirements now will create an incapacity for public schools to maintain. Policies are now so bad, that good teachers leave for better jobs and opportunities. The majority of teachers are less educated now and are simply babysitters. A smaller percent work hard to compensate and burn out.
