How many weapons would the cops find if they searched your house?
How many would be pointed at cops?

As usual with any OT thread involving police action, there’s crucial nuance missing.
It's always disturbing to me how quickly tOT throws out some basic due process when it comes to things too.
Or jump to the conclusion that any questioning of police procedure automatically means you want to "defund" the police.

It was a 16 year old with a laser pointer hand gun. It’s illegal for him to even be in possession of the gun. You are pretty dillusional if you believe he sleeps with the gun and he’s not carrying it around on the streets.
It's also illegal for a 12 year old to own a gun, yet one shot an intruder.
I am guessing you think she should be brought up on charges too?

But if you are raiding a dope house, you kind of need the dope for evidence. The guy is most likely not going to have the evidence on him at Walmart.
It's possible for them to simultaneously search the house and arrest him in daylight.

Firearm Laws in Alabama

What I want to know if the guns found were stolen. That will tell you everything you need to know about this situation
Seeing as they didn't charge anyone with a firearm violation...
I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I am starting to think you are not as smart as you think you are.

Very few if any posters would seriously contend that the officer’s shot, in the moment, was NOT justified.
The problem is that both the dead kid and the officer were put in no-win situations because of the choice by the department to conduct a raid in the middle of the night. Any reasonable person with a right to self-defense would grab a firearm and most reasonable officers conducting such a raid who is confronted by such a reasonable person would shoot to kill. Neither person in that situation acted wrongly, but the situation should never have occurred.
You are 99.9% correct. The .1% where you may be slightly off base is the individual cop could say something along the line of "you know boss, it seems like a bad idea to slip up on someone's home and kick the door down while screaming POLICE. It could conceivably result in the people inside the house reacting in a less than positive way and someone, them or us, is liable to get injured or killed". Their boss would probably react poorly but the cop's life is not endangered unless the cop is not man enough to tell his boss to kiss his arse. If he ain't man enough to look out for his own safety he is not fit to be a cop...but he is what we demand of cops.

Braindead question. Unsurprising.

That will be your justification calling this good?
“Well we raided this home because we believed that XXX person was selling large amounts of drugs out of it. In the end we didn’t find that individual, we didn’t find any drugs of note, and we shot a 16 year old kid. But hey, we found a janky hi-point with the serial number scratched off so we will call it a win.”

Difference is neither that pilot or that doctor has qualified immunity that protects them (and their pension) if they frick up. Same for their bosses who institute policies that put civilians and other cops at risk.
There’s no incentive for them to change those policies because it’s OUR money getting spent in settlements when things like this happen.

It's possible to be a supporter of your local police department yet at the same time, think breaking into someone's house with SWAT for weed possession is absolutely retarded.
It is not possible, however, to support your local policemen AND simultaneously support their supervisor's demanding they do incredible dangerous shite like kicking folks doors down, driving like maniacs and behaving in a way that places them at odds with the citizens they are supposed to be protecting and serving. You can either support police or support the current state of policing in the United States, it is not possible to do both because the latter is not supportive of police it is extremely detrimental to police....

It seems as if the consensus is that having a firearm in your home should only be legal as long as the state does not show up for any reason. If they do then you are fair game for the state. Interesting. I would LOVE to see someone float that fricking stupid shite at the local gun show this weekend...

Wannabe Thug died because he pointed a pistol at them.
Now, that said, I don’t agree with the overwhelming number of pre-Dawn SWAT raids as if they’re chasing AQ in Fallujah.
The guy they wanted wasn’t there. They did a piss poor job of gathering intelligence, as someone else said they could’ve arrested him any time.

I think its nonsense that they do these SWAT raids for anything less than murderers or hostage situations. The police have so many resources that they can arrest these guys when they go to Walmart and search their homes then.
There's no thrill and publicity in that despite the fact that it is far, far better for public safety. They don't even have to arrest him, they can just take him in for questioning and it seems he wasn't even the one they were looking for so that makes it a bone-head FUBAR.

Like fire departments and ems agencies, police departments are vastly different city to city. I'm just meaning supporting your local street cop out there. You may not like the administration or policies in place, or maybe you do depending on the dept.
I'm not telling people to support them. I said it's possible to support your local police dept (should have said officers) and think what happened in OP stupid. I don't care for drug raids. Plenty of street cops don't care for their SWAT comrades.

At 16 years old, if someone broke into the house I was absolutely the first line of defense as I was the only person comfortable with using and handling a firearm.
Should that be Illegal? For a 16 year old to defend their home?
