I don't like bumping this in this thread, but:
I know both Josh and Eric. Both are great priests.
If you like Josh, you would like Eric.

I wish more priests were like these two. The Catholic Church would have a heck of a lot more loyal following by the younger people if so.

This is categorically false. You have zero data to support this. If you meant to say it is much more popular to shame the Catholic Church by publizicing these acts I will agree with you. But you cannot show me any data proving the frequency of Catholic priests performing this behavior is occurring at a greater incidence than Protestant preachers.

The difference is the protestant churches did not have a ongoing world wide conspiracy condoned, and organized at the highest levels of the church to hide and protect clergy who were sexual predators of children. For this the Catholic church deserves every bit of shame it receives.

He said he became aware of those allegations only recently, when he was contacted by a church investigator. He said he is skeptical that the allegations are true, but added: “I could be way the hell wrong.” quote: She later called back and told The Advocate that she and her daughter had seldom spoken in the last 18 years. She denied that her daughter had told her in 1996 of being abused by Gyan, but said that her daughter had begun "acting out" around that time. Nonetheless, the mother said she is skeptical of her daughter's claim of abuse. quote: She also noted that her daughter had recently filed a second complaint about sexual abuse by a Catholic pastor, this one stemming from an even earlier incident in another state. Hmmmmm....

Then why the hell put this in the paper?!!!
Damage is done now.

Bitch called the church office and not the police .

Statute of limitations so the police can't act.

Plus a "recovered memory" is likely to get laughed out of court and rightfully so.

Many victims of sexual abuse do not come forward for numerous reasons.

Your reasons are all commonly asserted, and I’m not arguing. But waiting so long deprives the accused of the ability to defend himself. The “shame” excuse or “no one would believe me” or “I was too scared” is getting tiresome, Bc it’s simply not true anymore. Rape victims are readily believed nowadays, and it’s been that way for a long time. There is no shame at all—usually the opposite— and thousands of raped women come forth every year ready to testify against an accused. Celebrity status or money doesn’t protect a rapist, and hasn’t in a long time.

Waiting so long to report is a huge problem that doesn’t need to happen anymore.

It depends on the exact charge, but yeah statute of limitations is very long regardless and won’t protect the priest.

In 2011 a guy I knew was charged with raping two kids in the 1980s. They were his stepkids at the time. No physical evidence at all, the accusers couldn’t even pinpoint the years the abuse supposedly happened, their stories changed upon retelling, and none of the versions made logical sense anyway. And yet, he was tried for Agg Rape (no statute of limitations). Thankfully he was acquitted, but it never should’ve gone that far. Just a base accusation and nothing more can put a man in Angola.

Ever babysat, tutored, coached, taught kids? You better hope you they don’t come back 30 years later.

Other religions don't have the same frequency of incidents as Catholic priests.
False.

quote:

NASHVILLE, June 14 (AP) — The three companies that insure a majority of Protestant churches say they typically receive upward of 260 reports a year of children younger than 18 being sexually abused by members of the clergy, church staff members, volunteers or congregants.

The figures released to The Associated Press offer a glimpse into what has long been a difficult phenomenon to detail: the frequency of sexual abuse in Protestant congregations.

Protestants’ numbers are harder to come by and sketchier because the denominations are less centralized than the Catholic Church. Many congregations are independent, making reporting even more difficult.
