quote:lol.....huey wanted all major ships to stop at NOLA to prevent larger ports to be built up river. The old bridge is the same as the huey p in Nola. It set the minimum height for bridges along the MS.
The bridge is low because there was no need of it being higher.

Mind sharing the link? Thanks

They have been screwing up management of the Miss River for over a century.
Look at the sediment diversion controversy lately. 20 years of studying.... engineers from left and right developed the least shitty option.....got it passed and started construction, just to have a politician whom the dredgers are funding kill it.

Ugh....yea
And if you're trying to imply I mean it is the same down to the rivet. I'm not. But it is the sister bridge of the huey p in Nola. And the huey p in Nola does set the minimum height of bridges upstream. So tell me where I'm wrong.

So I'll eat it. How I said that the Nola huey p does is it sets the maximum allowance of vessels to go up stream. Not the minimum clearance of MS R crossings.

I admit I only skimmed the OP because…damn that was a lot. So everyone forgive me if I missed something.
The way the sediment buildup below Natchez has been explained to me is that the major danger isn’t necessarily the increased flood risk that comes with a shallower channel (along with all the other downstream impacts like Bonne Carre getting opened more often and pissing off MS Gulf Coast). Rather, I was told that at any point in a major high water event, a major amount of this sediment (Mudberg?) could be dislodged/washed out and eventually collide with the structure downstream and cause damage or failure. Sort of like a floating avalanche.
Can’t remember where I heard that and it could be certified BS. But seems plausible.
Alls I know is that whatever is gonna happen is gonna happen. Engineers have been engineering our way out of trouble for a long time. I’m sure they’ll come up with some other scheme if the need arises.

Blow up the levees south of Bell Chase and reestablish some of the major bayous and feeders off the river. Make a main artery that cuts straight south through Dulac.
Dredge the river north of ORCS bring it to Terrebonne parish.
Problems solved.

Some of the most expensive hunting clubs in the state are inside the levee. It’s not cheap.
