Yes, he is fine.
He only gets to go out at the country house where he grew up. We won't let him out in the city. Too many cars and people who do mean things to Black cats (people suck).
He has a pet door in the country, but he has lost night privileges. It seems like that was when he kept coming in with battle damage. Only gets out in the day.
He is a very smart cat. So smart he is spooky. Had a lot of animals. Never one with his cunning. When the pet door was installed. He watched her lock it. He walked over and unlocked with his paw and went out. We blocked it with a big cooler. He put his head against the cooler and dug in and pushed it out of the way. Have to put 40 pounds at least or he just moves it.

I’ve had cats my whole life. When I was a kid, we always had an outside one that never got much attention. I started smoking so I’d sneak outside to smoke every night and the cat would meet up with me. I realized that once we bonded, it was completely different animal. Just takes awhile to actually trust you.
I had one cat for 18 years that I put down last year. Sweetest little cat ever. While out walking last year, I heard a little ‘mew’ as I was was running inside to beat the rain. Tried to ignore it, but I couldn’t. Found the little half starved, flea ridden kitten hiding in a ditch and took him in ‘for the night’ until I figured out what to do. We bonded quick and now this lil rat is king of the house. Great cat. No work whatsoever, doesn’t tear up anything, snuggles when I want, leaves me alone when I want. Plays, sleeps, whatever. Great pet for a person that works a lot and doesn’t want to deal with all the work that a pup requires.
