screw that they are over populating the world

Cats that live in the wild or indoor pets allowed to roam outdoors kill from 1.4 billion to as many as 3.7 billion birds in the continental U.S. each year, says a new study that escalates a decades-old debate over the feline threat to native animals.Jan 29, 2013

I can't comprehend killing 1.4-3 BILLION birds per year in the USA alone. That's nuts.

1. "Have a Heart" traps

2. Spay/Neuter them at the free clinics that do that

3. Release back into neighborhood

ETA:

I hate cats, but bringing the fixed feral ones back into your neighborhood keeps out the other ones. They're territorial,

And they'll destroy the rodent population.

A little give and take with that topic.

Less birds and way less rats/mice/rodents

OR more birds and a shite load more rodents and disease running rampant.

Damn. So you're saying that I could be saving possibly hundreds of birds lives? Hmm. I do like birds.

I want to say the estimated feral cat population is between 30 and 50 million.

Solution is to trap and fix.

Have a block party, help by barbecuing some "rabbit" that you had in your freezer.

That sounds like a lot of effort. Seems like a .22 calibre is more effective and saves time.

Where are you located? There are organizations that will place baited traps in the area to rescue the cats.

I actually just went on the humane society website a little while ago and filled out an application to have them come out and trap and neuter. It's the Peggy Adams animal rescue league in west palm beach.

When I worked in Saudi we had a terrible cat problem on the compound I lived on. Biggest problem were these two big azzed tomcats that lived on the compound. Owner of property wouldn't do chit to rectify the issue so we started luring in the toms by putting out a bowl of milk every night. After about a week we set up an extension cord with one end cut off and stuck it in the bowl down into the milk. Had it plugged in to an outside plug with an inside switch. Sat there drinking cold beers (homebrew)all evening till those bastards finally showed. Let them get there faces in it and get good and soaked before we hit the switch. After the flash we saw one heading out at warp 8 trailing a wisp of smoke while the other did a backflip and then proceeded to run smack into the wall of the villa before re-assessing his intended direction of flight and haulin azz.
Never saw them again but the laughs still are as vivid a memory nearly 20 years later.

The welding gloves comment reminded me.
Had some friends that worked in an all night vet clinic. Went to visit them and some old lady brought in a feral cat to have her fixed so she could release it. The dr comes in with welding glove looking for help knocking the cat out. That cat was a furry ball of pure hell and fury when he grabbed it. It was spraying and shitting, hissing and God only knows the noises that fricking thing made. Tech hit it with the needle and it was out. Watched the procedure. It was full of thumb sized kittens. They went into the trash can. Old lady showed up with another as we were leaving.
Cats do destroy song bird populations. They have open season on them up north.
