Tioga & Ball, just outside Alexandria/Pineville, got hit pretty good last night... cell came in around 3:15 AM last night (at least that's when I got awaken by the power going out)
I called the NWS Lake Charles office and a tornado surveyor is heading up now to take a look at this
this damage is on my street... photos taken by 1 of my neighbors... fortunately it seems like there have been no injuries that I know of at the moment
ETA: an EF1 tornado has been confirmed by the NWS

ETA: an EF1 tornado has been confirmed by the NWS

A F-1 tornado ripped through the Ball and Tioga areas early Thursday, leading residents to later question why they got no warning before it struck.
No injuries were reported, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office.
Sonya Wiley-Gremillion of the Rapides Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness said the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed to her that the storm was a tornado, more toward the higher range of a F-1.
Some damages were caused by winds as high as 90 mph, she said.
The NWS crew still was assessing in Tioga and Deville on Thursday afternoon. The damage in Deville appears to have been caused by heavy winds, said Wiley-Gremillion.

Yeah, the Dairy Queen is closed until further notice. Messed up pretty bad. Also heard the power may be out for awhile.

Props on calling the NWS and letting them come take a look. They’ll be able to confirm if it is tornado or straight line wind damage.

my untrained eye says tornado simply b/c...
1 neighbor across the street from me had a flagpole that was bent over facing towards my side of the street
across the street... in the direction the flagpole was bent... a tree was snapped about 100 ft up and was landed on a house more towards the main highway and facing the highway's direction
that's a 90 degree turn from the way the flagpole was bent

The South, where every strong wind is a tornado and every snake is a water moccasin.

It narrowly missed us. It was pretty wild here last night about 2:45. I’m a little west in south grant parish. A guy that works with me couldn’t make it out of his house this morning

hey, chingchong, you look at the pics of the DQ? Looks like a little more than a strong wind.

a lot of people are raking KALB over the coals for there being no warning
I'm not going to b/c it was at 3 AM and most people were asleep... but going back through the NWS tweets... I didn't even see a severe t'storm warning for the affected area as the storms came through last night

I was looking at the picture of a "tornado" from last night's storm in NE Texas that was clearly a picture of a microburst (you could see the dust blowing out).
Of course, FB was full of "confirmed tornado on the ground" reports.
There were tornadoes ... just not in that storm.
