Positive LaDOTD story

Dotd is managing an overlay and drainage project near my home on Hwy347. They are not the contractors but they are out there every day. The intersection of my road and 347 had 6’ weeds growing on the edge of the highway making it hard to see oncoming traffic from the right. Then a week ago a very large orange construction ahead sign was put up at the stop sign. I had to pull out into the oncoming iffy lane to see around the weeds and signs.
At 8:35 Tuesday morning, I called the dotd customer service desk expecting the typical government run around and general poor attitude.
Call was quickly answered and the rep questioned me to make sure he understood what and where my concern referenced.
That evening the weeds were pushed down with a backhoe and the sign moved across the highway. Now I am sure that they had the contractor go do this but the fact that then even communicated this fast is kind of unexpected
This is not The Onion.

You should probably send this feedback to whoever the DOTD district engineer is for your area. Especially if you can remember the name of the person you talked to, I'm sure the LaDOTD would love to hear their people are doing something right for once

So they'll be back up tomorrow.
Does their contractor not know of a weed eater?

You don’t want to get the mowers union on your butt.

This is me waiting for the Bourg Company Canal Bridge to be completed:
DOTD’s contractor is a year behind.

Probably so they can fire them. They can’t have someone making everyone else look bad.

There has been a large orange caution barrel placed in the center of my street on top of a pothole for over a year. The pothole is also at an intersection, so the barrel is actually located partially in three lanes of travel. Over a year. City street, though, not LADOTD's deal, but I still hold the grudge against them for being in an affiliated line of work.

Did the customer service rep have a slight Boston accent? If so, that's the manager and he'll make shite happen.

They were pushed down with like a backhoe so it should die until new weeds start growing.

I've noticed an increase in people going to work merely to exist and "cover their arse". They would rather do nothing than do what they think is right based on their experience and risk making a decision that can be misconstrued as wrong.

I don't think DOTD owns any working mowers.
Either that or they don't have any working workers.
Vermilion Parish State highways have trees growing in the ditches.
About a year ago I saw the mowing machine on a highway, they cut about a quarter mile on one side of the road and then went back to the work barn.
It was about 10:30 am, I guess they had to go back to take their break.

Hopefully the contractor did the right thing and sprayed Roundup on the weeds.

Just received a call from the St. Martin Parish Dotd supervisor/director. I was so shocked I forgot her name. She called to update me on my request. She stated that she had the contractor go knock down the weeds and move the sign and also informed me that grass cutting in the construction area will begin again tomorrow.
I asked why they were only putting culverts in at random spots along the project. She said that all they had the funding for so they installing culverts where more wrecks have happened and at locations such as exiting a curve.
She went to explain that they still have to do one final 2” overlay and that the next section of 347 rebuilding is about to start.
Super nice. Super informative. Super impressed

You know this is not the place for kindness or logic.
