They cost very little to own. A good chance less than what you drive.

I get the point and they aren't for everyone but the Porsche I had was literally the least expensive daily driver I've ever owned. They are almost free in a sense when compared to the average car. With some examples, resale is so fantastic that if you own one long enough you are likely to get more for it used than you paid new.

Scheduled maintenance can be expensive so if you drive high miles this can add up.. but can still be made up for by lack of deprecation compared to other cars.

If you buy one of the more limited models (GT3, Targa variants), you can actually drive them "free" (in a sense)...

Example: a new Targa/S will run, let say, $155k. You can put 10k miles on it in the first yer, and then sell it for just about what you paid for it 12 months later, as there just aren't many Targas produced, and the demand is high. The dealer may only get 5-6 slots for Targa orders, and they are often sold as " built to order".

The dealer here had a 2016 GT3 with 8500 miles on it and was selling it for $20k above the initial sticker. The guy who owned it traded it in for a new GT3. He was probably not too far off from even money, or maybe the cost of driving a Camry for a year.

True...for a Turbo S.

The diatribe was indeed specific to the Turbo S. As an aside I am sure you know the 991 Turbo makes almost no fiscal sense the S is the only way to go.

I have been a fan of Turbos since the 993, I have only had one NA 911 since then, a 996 GT3 and I would rather the GT3s but the market adjustments are nuts and they don't get cheaper used. The 911 Turbo cars are a great buy used. My 991.1 Turbo S was totaled last year and I am patiently waiting for the 991.2s to drop to my happy place with price.

I love the tuning potential the turbo engines have!

Since my 991 S is a "last of a breed NA", I may hold on to it rather than trade it in (I am contemplating ordering an '18 991.2 this year)---maybe in 20 years it will see a surge like the air cooled are currently experiencing.

I had a decent fender bender with my 15 991.1 Turbo S and sold it for a slightly used R8+. While a great car in it's own right, a 911 just feels a better. A 911 is made to fit around the driver, great visibility and it just fits. I feel as if the rear engined lower end exotics (R8, huracan, 458 etc) are made to look awesome and you have to find a way to fit in them with more compromises.

If you think you'll be a douche by buying a 911, then don't get one - you'll just be a douche driving something else. The 911 is the quintessential sports car, period. It is not a "super car" - it is a driver's car, especially in turbo form (930 in particular). It is a curvy road's wet dream, but can bite you in the arse as well. Give me a short body turbo with a manual & I'm in heaven (a Singer build would be awesome).

I wish I could find a low mileage 991.1S for a good price. Like 14' for $60K.

The car I most regret selling (I regret a lot of them) was my 1996 Arena Red 993 Turbo. I sold it in 2004 with about 17,000 miles on it. The buyer still has it and it is up for sale now with under 50k on the odometer. Needless to say the price is more than he paid me!

I've held onto cars before but always seem to lose patience when they are near the bottom. A soon as I sell they start creeping back up.

What I would love to have is whatever ends up being the last NA GT3, that said with my luck about the time it doubled in price I would force it into a life ending date with the armco.

Just A LOT less gawdy than the RWBs

The RWB’s certainly aren’t for everyone, but the craftsmanship is there. If I’m not mistaken, the body work on each one is hand crafted by one guy in Japan. It’s Singer level quality, just a different aesthetic obviously. Vorsteiner is doing a similar build now with the Gunther Werks 400r, it’s actually a pretty sick build...but is like a $500,000 conversion.

What’s y’all a thoughts on safari builds like the Luftauto 911’s? Pretty badass IMO.

The Italians have a habit of building sports cars that you lie down to drive. Some of the older Ferrari 8 cylinder cars had the worst pedal arrangements I have ever seen.

911s and Porsche, in general, are the kind of car the average driver can be fully comfortable in and never have to compromise on position. Well unless you get one of the GT cars with fixed back seats.

45K miles isnt much but a hair more than I would like for a Porsche. Also preferred color is white.

I like them too. Quirky and odd enough to be interesting.

Yea just not my taste. It’s all hand crafted and I think they’re all one off cars too. I’ve watched a 10 minute interview with the guy someone posted on reddit a while back that was pretty good.

Lots of talk about the Singer 911s which are indeed amazing and I would love the Singer/Williams version, the engine is a work of art. However, there is something about the Soul of a Magnus Walker car that I just can't ignore. I would kill for his "288", plus he gets respect for being a true track rat.

We had to sell some raffle tickets for Rotary awhile back where the prize was a choice of a new 911 or 40,000 cash.

I'd take the cash. The drawing was held Friday I haven't heard who won it

If it was a new 911 why would you take the 40K, unless you just like to throw away money.

I have a question for some of you who seem to know Porsches better than I do.

I became a Porsche owner way late. My first love was 60's/70's American big blocks, also had a couple dozen other sports, vintage, and enthusiast cars incl. a '65 GTO convertible, a K-code fastback to a Maserati Biturbo (what a POS),and an M6 to E-Type Jaguars... and many between. I'm new to Porsche's, drove my first about 10-12 years ago and ever since nothing else will do. What I don't understand is the relative disdain for the Boxster. I've met long time 911 drivers who sold their cars for preference of a Boxster, as well as guys that own a GT3 but still prefer driving their Boxster. I spent 3 weeks driving both before settling on the Boxster. For one, the Boxster steering felt heavier and tighter than the 911, especially around town where the 911 feels over boosted to me.

The G force from the 911 S is such an incredible rush but even though less quick, the new Boxster S feels like no less a car and every bit as much a Porsche as the 911. I used to think of them as small cars and half-baked or poor man's Porsches but they are actually fricken' world class beasts... wider than the Audi R8 and same length as a the new Corvette within an inch or so. My next will DEFINITELY be a 911 S but if Porsche would give the Boxster an equal power option, I wouldn't think twice to get another Boxster. I'd dare say Porsche would have a hard time selling the 911 if they offered both w/the same power...even at the same price. The Boxster just feels more responsive, better handling, and better balanced...maybe the finest handling car on earth and will slingshot around tight curves at crazy speed like its locked on a rollercoaster rail...effortlessly...when at least 9 of 10 other super cars would be wheels up in the ditch.

So, for you long time Porsche guys who've driven both, do you take the new Boxster seriously, and if not, why?? And I don't GAF about what specs, times, magazines, or forum posts say... only guys who've actually spent significant time driving both. I may not know Porsches as well as some do but I do know great cars when I drive them and I've driven a lot. I think the perception that a Boxster is somehow a second rate Porsche is either based on the older ones...or total inexperience with them... and maybe the lower price point, but not actual driving experience.
