All they know is she is visibly old and walking towards them with a knife that she refused to put down.
Would you rather they tackle her? Risk getting slashed trying to calmly take the knife from her hand? Another option?

Reminds me of the 91 or so year old man in the nursing home who was refusing to take their medication and the cops tasered him. Guess they just hire fricking pussies?

So what happened to using actual police training to subdue someone? Why do you got to taser someone who can be easily subdued with actual police training? Other first world countries can do this, yet cops in the US are quick to pull the trigger. Are us American Citizens that much of thugs and we just don't know it?

But no, they aren't. Their job is inherently dangerous, but that doesn't mean they have to intentionally put themselves in danger (in certain situations). That is why they have non lethal weapon.
Take the instance of using a taser on an armed person walking towards you, for example.

I can understand why the cops did what they did, but I don't really understand the need to call 911 on an old woman that I would describe as followed:
