It is actually a law that they are allowed to use their computers and phones in their cars. I am not sure if the law includes the 7 out of 8 hours of watching movies and bleeping their sirens at hot chicks, but it is a law.

Again this frustrations the citizens further buy passing laws that place the police above the law that the citizens must follow. Then writing tickets to citizens for doing exactly what the person writing the ticket is allowed to do is pouring salt on the wound. All this drives the citizens to not respect enforcement even further when it really needs to go the other direction.

Have you seen the way that too many people drive while they have their faces in a phone? I'd say protecting and serving is exactly what they're doing.

There are more serious problems in the world. So we're now tying up at least three cops to hand out texting tickets?

frick that. Do some real police work.

I'm actually OK with this. I'm glad to see them cracking down on texting drivers. I almost get run off the road by a texting driver at least once a week.

shite is dangerous.

Same here. Texting and driving is getting out of control.

I'm pretty sure that you can legally look at your phone GPS while driving.

You can. The statute that bans driving and texting specifically mentions that you can still use your phone for GPS reasons.

quote:

Texting while driving (R.S. 32:300.5) No person shall operate any motor vehicle upon any public road or highway of this state while using a wireless telecommunications device to write ,send, or read a text –based communication. It is a moving violation and a primary offense. The first violation is punishable by a $175 fine. Each subsequent violation is punishable by a $500 fine. Navigation with a global positioning system and use during emergencies are allowed.

Don't be an idiot.

Law enforcement exists to enforce laws and texting is against the law in almost every state. There are hundreds of thousands of people killed or injured every year because of distracted drivers. I'd bet those people and their families and friends would think this type of police work is pretty real.

Wonder how many were killed while a driver texted while stopped at a light?

You should look into that. Illegal is illegal.
