In hindsight it's incredible it took this long to get an app like this. It is a genius use of smartphones. My only question is whether it is purely free or is it a freemium app with in-app purchases. If it is the former, where do they make their money,?
IIRC, the company that worked on this app made another game using the exact same concept and technology a few years ago. It was called Ingress. In fact, Pokemon Go uses the same real-world locations that Ingress used--it's the same library. So it's not actually a new thing.

What makes this different is that it's joined with a massively popular franchise and it's also available on iOS.

Nintendo stock is up like 37.5% since the release so clearly they're expecting huge future revenues.

I had it until I heard the urban dwellers in Pinellas County, i.e St. Petersburg and Clearwater, were using it to track people's location to rob them. I've since deleted it.

I heard this on local news today. Apparently you can use it to lure people to certain places by challenging them with characters.

I don't have it and will not be downloading it. I can see some benefits of the game/app cause it gets people outside and moving. Which is one of my biggest complaints of my generation (20 somethings) is that people are too damn lazy.

I guess my point is its surprising it took this long for Pokémon. That game is tailor made for this kind of game play.

My oldest got on her bike and ride all around our neighborhood looking for characters. She never rides her bike for nothing. We have that going for us. She also gets on it when I take her to swim practice in the car. She has found some cool characters.

Geocaching has been around for years, and you get tangible rewards for participating.

Typo? Getting out and doing anything is better than what they're probably doing. It may not be a significant benefit, but it's better than nothing.

No typo just making the statement many will use their cars.

Have a friend that's a cop pulled several people over stopping in the middle of the street playing it

Took Michelle Obama 8 years and kids would still rather sit inside and play Xbox. It took Pokemon GO a few hours to get kids to go outside and do shite

I've seen a shitload of people playing the game in NYC. It's pretty easy to tell because there will be 5-10 people all standing/walking in the same 50 meter diameter area looking at their phones.

I saw a chubby, pasty girl sprint up and down a street while stopping to look at her phone, presumably to catch Pokemon.

I'm glad she was running, but idk, it seemed kind of pathetic too.
