That was one of the best finishes to a bike race that I can recall watching. Fuglsang and Alaphilippe have to be kicking themselves for their lack of effort over the last 2 km. I would love to see MVDP's last 2 km laid over those two's efforts.

Mdvp certainly put out some crazy power. He’s a phenom but has likely the greatest genetic background ever for a cyclist.
My takeaway from that race was he won it after Fuglsang doomed his and Alaphilippes chances by not helping.

Van der Poel’s best 20-minute effort for the day was 378w (5.17w/kg) with a max power of 1,400w during his final sprint.

Damn. I average around 110 watts over a 10 mile(roughly an hour) mountain bike ride, with being over 350w making up around 5% of that time. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to be able to put out that much power for that long. Incredible.

Riding a bike isn’t athleticism, I could do that when I was 5

I wish I could average 337w over a single mile now, hitting 50 is a bitch.

I also would love it if we had power meter data from some of Eddie's epic one-day classics to compare.

337 watts for 6.5 hours is insane. I can do that for about 5 minutes and need oxygen. Looking forward to see him take on Nino Schurter in the MTB World cups this summer.

It's nuts that he has the potential to be the champ in all 3 cycling disciplines this year. Already cyclocross world champ, good possibility for the MTB this summer and the Dutch team is holding a spot for him if he wants to race the road one in September in yorkshire

It's not that hard to generate an FTP of 300w if you're riding and training quite a bit. The problem is generating that much power while weighing as little as possible.

The pros do this by deliberately choosing to atrophy their upper body muscles which I was never into.

MVDP is on a tear. If I average ~180 watts for a four hour ride I think I crushed it, and my max wattage is only like 900-1000 watts. Unfortunately I fear he's the new Sagan in that he will be constantly marked in every race and no one will be willing to work with him.

....Didn't seem to hurt him in Amstel Gold, i'm calling a BS GPS hiccup on his Max speed though, that's like 77 MPH.

I've seen 70mph on Taylor Phinney's Strava before on descents in Colorado during training rides.

I've personally hit 64mph coming down roan mountain.
