PMP certification -- exam prep question

I know, the certification is worthless.
For those with a CM degree and 5 years + of experience, did you have to read the PMBOK or was the 4 day crash course enough?
My employer is paying for the course and the exam so I figured I'd drink a big glass of the koolaid so my email signature can read, "Dillpicklelsu, MBA, PMP"

PRINCE2 is the better thing...PMBOK is very academic and doesn't teach you shite in the real word of project management.

I don't see WCCS behind it. You earned that credential years ago.
World Class Cock Sucker.

Read the PMBOK. The terminology they use does not always equal the real-world terminology. There are also parts of the PMBOK that are not addressed during the crash course, i.e. ethics and some of the PMBOK fine print are not covered that well.

Crash course is sufficient. I've never read the PMBOK cover to cover, but occasionally for reference. Didn't factor into my prep.
Strongly recommend the prep course from PMTI, but I'm sure there are other good ones.

I'm not sure who's giving it....just taking what they are providing, I read through chapter one of the PMBOK guide, but that's a long arse book

As the business stakeholders gain more footing and influence over big capex projects the less relevant PMBOK becomes comparatively speaking to the PRINCE2 methodologies. Check them out.

That book and the certification was pretty much worthless in my industry. But if your employer is footing the bill, why not?

I interviewed with the sales and marketing branch of my company to get out of construction. They advised to complete the PMP as it would be useful to become a project manager in sales and marketing.
Edit...and my current department is paying for the crash course and exam

Is this an industrial construction thing? Never known anyone in commercial here in ATL that has it.

It is a wanna be PE. In Atl, you have an influx of Tech and AU engineers, so you won't see this as much.

Sucks to be in commercial and deal with all that alphabet bs

Google "PMP 75 free sample questions" You pass that test, you'll have no problem with the exam.
You're welcome.
