Please teach your young kids 911, their home address, and parents phone numbers

My brother-in-law called me Friday night crying hysterically that they are trying to revive his baby sister. She has been in ICU since then and he just told me that she is brain dead. From what he told me, she collapsed in the bath tub and was face down in the tub with the water running. She was at the house with her two year old son and her seven year old daughter.
The seven year old didn’t know what 911 was, she didn’t know her address, and she didn’t know her home or her dad’s cell phone number. They live on a piece of land with no neighbors close by. All she did was shut the water off and tried to wake her mom up until their dad made it home from work. The little girl doesn’t know what time or how long it had been until their dad made it home.
The whole family is devastated and I feel so bad for them. I don’t know if she could have been saved or not but if they taught the seven year old how to call 911 incase of an emergency, her home address, and parents phone numbers, I believe that her mom could still be alive.

Most kids are taught this in preschool.

You’d be surprised how many kids don’t have a clue what their address is even at the middle school age.

Frick man. That’s horrible.

Terrible but we are in an age where rhe phones raise the kids

You’d be surprised by how many adults I know that don’t know family members numbers because they rely on the contacts on their phone.

I made damn sure my 7 year old knew our address and how to call 911 on our phones (using the emergency dialing feature without a passcode) by the time he was 5. It's too important to not teach.
Prayers for your brother-in-law's family.

I still know my grandmothers phone number and she’s been dead for 31 years. Had a rotary phone

You'd be surprised how many people don't know the name of their doctor. I work in life insurance and I talk to at least five people a day who have no idea who their doctor is. Boggles my mind.

Simple things like that can make all the difference in the world

Thats why this needs to be on those America's got talent, the voice and American idol time slots instead of the bullshite that those shows are.

This is very, very important!
Teach it to them. Help them memorize it. Drill them on it. Make it a game and reward them for knowing it when you ask. It can literally save your or a loved one's life.
There's a podcast called "911 Calls with the Operator". It has covered a few calls with children who called. Usually, it is on their "Happy Endings" segment at the end of the show after the gruesome call has been covered.
It works, it helps, and every single parent should teach their children to call 911, teach them their address, and the appropriate phone numbers.

That was my show as a little kid in the early 90s. I learned a lot from watching that.

Most adults that got cell phones as teenagers probably don’t have a single number committed to memory. I only know my wife’s number, and a few numbers from before I had a cell phone with contact info. I once lost my phone while traveling, and all my numbers were backed up at home. Now I keep a laminated card with a couple dozen phone numbers in my wallet. With that I can buy a prepaid phone and carry on without too much hassle

We weren't. And now we have priorities, like racism and sex indoctrination, to worry about.

Was a landline available in the house? If not, how was the kid supposed to call anyone?
Does the 7 year old have a cell phone?

Jesus.
That's tragic. Prayers brother.
As a parent of a soon to be 7yr.old daughter, this hits close to home.
