I think it was staged too. I heard rating before the slap, were even lower than last year, but once the slap happened and it went out all over social media, the rating doubled. Not sure where that put it overall even doubling the rating, but it sure did help.
The real tell will be if they take away his Oscar. If they take it away, then it wasn't fake. That is the only way I will believe it wasn't staged.

She has talked about open marriage.
Notice how after the second "keep my wife's name out your fricking mouth" he says "I could..." but then shakes it off and continues with the show? A lifelong standup comedian like Chris has a mind that's been trained to come up with a response on the spot (dealing with hecklers in a verbal way that shuts them down is pretty key in the profession).
Don't think something like that wasn't in his head, he just decided the better path was to move on instead of instigating a bigger fight (which is what would have happened).
