I have not driven the 5.0 to know but I had an older f150 with an 8 and lived it. 1998. Stil my favorite vehicle.
As far as the jet engine. The electric fans in these trucks are very loud . For whatever reason mine runs very often and is loud AF. Called the dealer to have it serviced and he said "does it sound like a jet engine?" I said yes, and he said it's just how the electric fan runs. I know it shouldn't, but man it really bothers me
