Planet Fitness should be ashamed of itself

ICYMI, Planet Fitness locations give away free pizza on the first Monday of every month and free bagels on the second Tuesday of every month—that's right, a gym that gives away pizza. As wacky as it may sound, it may be responsible for the gym chain's crazy growth, according to Business Insider, and, well, they have a good reason for it:
"At Planet Fitness we believe it's realistic and okay for people to enjoy a slice of pizza every once in a while in moderation," said Brian Zehetner, director of health and fitness at Planet Fitness. "We're a Judgement Free Zone and community through and through, and we whole-heartedly believe that it's a-okay to treat yourself in moderation, especially as you're working toward your individualized health and fitness goals, whatever they might be."

It's like $10 a month and always packed too.

I really don't see the problem here

You're just now finding out PF does free pizza?

It's the perfect business model. You fatten them up and then help them lose the weight. It would be like a cemetery who can bring you back to life only to kill you off again.
Recurring business is awesome. Yay capitalism.

Same here, and I tried like hell.

It's almost like a legal drug company. Get the fatties hooked on the cheesy good stuff and they'll come back for more every time.

I'm waiting for them to put the free beer taps in and then I'm signing up!

This is absolutely true. Giving people two pieces of pizza and teaching them they done need to house a 14" to feel full isn't necessarily a bad thing.
At the same time my gym is only like one step above PF (24hr Fitness)

A slice of pizza and a bagel per month would fatten you up? I think they are saying it's ok to live a little and not take things way too serious; moderation is fine.

You can eat and still be fit. Just don't eat a whole pizza in one sitting.

They obviously are marketing towards a specific type of person. Crowded, free pizza, judgement free, etc. They want the half-arse exercisers to join because they know the majority won't go consistently, so charging so little makes sense when some of those folks will only go to the gym a few times a year. It's like the participation trophy of gyms
ETA: I have no problem with Planet Fitness. I'm all about people being healthier regardless of how often they go or what encourages them to go

No their perfect business model is being cheap as frick per month and going after the fatties. People that pay dues to say they "belong to a gym," but don't actually go or notice the $10 a month means that there's no equipment wear/costs and each customer is pure profit.
