Today’s press conference was more about the temporary traffic restrictions that are ending soon before the NTSB reports come out. She was pushing for an immediate and permanent change due to how many near misses between helicopters and airplanes took place from 2021 thru end of 2024 that they have noted in investigation which were basically ignored. That allowing those regulations to start back up is too great of a risk, and something permanent would be better than just extending the current temporary restrictions.
I am not sure that she actually spelled out what alternative routes helicopters should use when both of those runways in use and just stated an alternative route needs to be put in place.
quote:
NTSB Board Chair Jennifer Homendy called the location of helicopter Route 4 and the final approach path to DCA runway 33 "an intolerable risk to aviation safety by increasing the chance of a midair collision."
Homendy said that currently helicopters and planes can be as close as 75 feet apart during landing. Between October 2021 and December 2024, 15,214 instances of planes getting alerts about helicopters in close proximity were identified, investigators said.
… The agency recommended that helicopter operations be prohibited on Route 4 between Hains Point and Wilson Bridge when runways 15 and 33 are in use and to designate an alternative helicopter route when Route 4 is closed.

Mayor Pete was too busy staging maternity shoots and taking bike rides to be bothered by suck nonsense

The cvr must be available. Hoover did a live debrief a few hours ago and mentioned that the instructor pilot made the comment seconds before impact to the pilot flying "hey I think ATC wants us to be further left ".
He also did the glide slope calculations for the commercial plane and there would have been less than 80 feet separation between the 2 aircraft. PAT radar altimeter showed the helo approximately 70 feet high and speculation is the commercial jet could have been low on the glide slope because of the short runway 33.
They were too close with zero margin for error. This was a disaster waiting to happen.

you are a disgusting piece of shite, and shown your true colors in this thread - between what you have said here, and the creepy thread about your neighbors little girl bringing you gifts, you are just a weird, shitty human being.

quote:That was just one of the tidbits the NTSB shared at the press conference last month. They still haven't released the transcript or recording that would show what communication there was between the instructing pilot who was handling coms with ATC and the pilot flying. Also it would show if they were distracted by their own chatter which could explain why they were so oblivious.
