"Reports that some people have been pulled out alive"

That would be truly miraculous.

Definitely miraculous.
The fact it happened over water gives some hope that's true.

67 people in total between the Blackhawk and AA jet
Posted on 1/30/25 at 12:55 am to KosmoCramer
Maximum altitude that the Blackhawk is allowed to be is at 200ft in this airspace, per ABC.
So potentially they didn't know that runway was active?

That's a copypasta from some manifesto.

Every time I’m in or out of DCA I can’t believe it’s allowed to exist right there. Just an accident waiting to happen with that tight space and tons of traffic both airline and military.

That’s not feasible, since they were given instructions to pass behind an aircraft inbound for landing.
I’m not familiar with helo rules/regs, but if they were busting altitudes, ATC sure didn’t put up much of a fuss. So either that report from ABC is inaccurate/incomplete, or they were operating under a different set of procedures.

Ilia Malinin won the mens competition and he's form Fairfax, VA. People on X say he wasn't on the flight though.
There's going to be someone important on almost every flight into dca.

Guy at the presser asked about the number of survivors and all the mayor said is there were 64 people on the plane. Non answer was an answer.
Senator from Kansas said at the press conference "I haven't seen any ambulances leaving the scene."
That was all I needed to hear.

Agreed.
Sorry, just watching the main coverage recently.
ABC is saying now they have ATC audio telling the Blackhawk to follow behind the AA jet.
So a VFR military Blackhawk (I assume the operate under the same flight rules) was told to avoid an aircraft in sight, and didn't.

That really doesn't mean anything.
Incident Command has full jurisdiction now, and they control all official information going out.
Hoping for the best.

Looks like the championships were in Wichita last week and ended on Sunday so it seems plausible.

My uncle flies helicopter private transport and has done this route before. He texted in the group chat this morning and said “100% helicopter pilot’s fault. He was off route and altitude was close to 400 ft when it should be 200 ft and below.”
ETA- I say this morning because I’m in Denmark for work just to not throw anyone off.

There was alleged communication between the Blackhawk and ATC, and the BW said they had visual separation. Per ABC.
So they didn't see them and saw someone else, or didn't actually see them and said they did. Or even more something nefarious, which I doubt.

Seeing now that it was younger skaters that are part of the developmental program were on the flight, along with coaches and other officials with US figure skating.
So, probably not any well known competitors, but a lot of up and coming skaters, as well as their coaches.

Obviously Helicopter is at fault in this situation, landing airplane is pretty much powerless to avoid anything.
Everyone is long dead. There was some confusion when some divers retrieved 4 people or bodies from the water early on. The people were deceased.
Prayers to all the families involved.

ABC saying there are people taken to hospitals.
Who knows if that's just confirmation of death, or what.

Helicopter pilot was in a turn and probably couldn't see/ misidentified the regional coming in on his left. With all the lights in area at night.
This is going to be very similar to the Texas Air show crash in 2022. There, the P-63 was in a turn and was instructed to be in front of a B-17. While in a left turn he nailed the bomber flying off his right.
A shame all around. Damn near 25 years since last U.S airline passenger crash. RIp to all victims.
