Like any other role in the military as long as they meet the same standards fine, the problem is too often they don't. Several of the first female Naval aviators should not have been in the cockpit, they were allowed to complete training with performance that would have resulted in a male counterpart washing out. The same has probably been true within commercial aviation because of the same pressure to have diversity in the cockpit.

Back in 2014, the commander of the 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale AFB was a woman, Col. Kristin Goodwin. She and her wife and kids were well received.
