Re the "new bridge": one of the long time servers at The Pastime Restaurant told the story of how the bridge was over 50% complete when it was determined that several of the pilings, on the B.R. side, would be right on top of the restaurant. The State refused to redesign, too expensive at that time of the project & insisted that the building would have to be leveled. The long time owner pulled some political strings & got the building designated as an historical building. Long story short, the pilings were moved in the design, at a cost of several million dollars. Standing in the parking lot, looking up, the bridge is directly over the building.
