My great-great uncle, Frank Patecek, owned a store on the corner of North Columbia and Boston Streets in Covington in from the 1900's through the 20's. The building is still there, near the Southern Hotel.

That horse looks terrified
He knows sugar is America's most costly addiction
And that his cowboy should switch to booze

Before the implementation of stringent laws against driving under the influence, the 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham boasted an array of extravagant features.
Encapsulating the opulence of its era, this remarkable car featured a sophisticated magnetized minibar discreetly placed within the glovebox.

Doughboy statue in Monticello, KY. Uncertain of year, but it looks like it isn't long after it was erected in April 1923.

My old pal Hangover Haven bringin' our Metairie childhood back...
A couple of notes:
-- My mom and step-dad league bowled at Pelican Lanes EVERY Friday night from around 1973 until it closed for Heritage Plaza's construction. When I was younger I had to go with them to the bowling alley and hang out; was very happy when I got old enough to be able to stay home by myself.
--Heritage Plaza WAS completed and opened in 1983, but construction began a few years before, and it was topped off just before I went away to college in August 1982. About a week or so before I left, I and a few friends snuck in and climbed the fire stairs all the way to the top. I actually went and sat in the crane operator's compartment. Dang, the crazy stuff we used to do as kids.

Hey B....
I had my bike stolen from in front of Pelican, my dad wasn't too happy, and you knew my dad..
Remember the bowling passes everyone got, I think every kid in the neighborhood was in the place at one time or another. I distinctly remember the smell, and playing the old claw machines that were in the front lobby. They were a nickle to play, but nobody won shite...

Had a bike stolen from in front of Fun Arcade. Was in there for like half an hour. Bikes were stolen ALL the time in Metairie back then.
