Not my photo, but a personal connection...
The oldest house still standing in Cobb County, Georgia. Built by my great-great-great-grandfather in 1841. The house barely survived the Civil War.
With the house in the line of Sherman's march down from Chattanooga to Atlanta, the family had evacuated east.
According to family history, torches had already been thrown under the porch to burn it, but as it was being ransacked, the Union soldiers found my ggg-grandfather's Masonic apron. The federal commander was also a Mason and made the troops put out the fire before the house caught; he had said he would not allow a fellow Mason's home to be destroyed.
