There really were some pretty advanced ideas in that design…
Low center of gravity, rear engine, independent suspension, cyclops turning light (I wish that would make a comeback), some crash absorbing ideas, innovative storage, etc.

For some perspective on the subject of the first cover: former Speaker of the House Joseph Cannon had been a political protege of Abraham Lincoln in 1850s Illinois. There are people today who were alive in 1923 -- we are only two lifetimes away from Lincoln.
