I can vividly remember helping my Aunt Judy roll out her old style wringer washing machine near the sink so she could fill it to do loads of wash. Fill it with a hose attached to the sink faucet and then run the larger hose into the sink so it could drain.

When they were done washing and rinsing the chore of feeding the wet clothes through the double roller ringer began and you'd better not let your hand get caught between those rollers.

Then when they were rung out, head outside to hang the clothes on a long line in the back yard to dry. In the summertime the sun would dry most of the clothes in less than an hour except jeans and heavy towels.

Good question. I wonder if he's a lifeguard.

That pic is from the pilot of that show. In the opening scene Granny was complaining about buttons popping off her shirts and her dad, Jed, says "She holds herself proud with her shoulders thrown back".

Then Granny tells him "It's not her shoulders that's popping those buttons".

Yeah, she sure cut a fine figure back in those days.

New Orleans
Canal Street (1850's)
Before streetcars (notice no wires in the air), before electricity, before telephones...
Raw and in a way so beautiful and serene...
Just dirt roads with horse and buggies...
