I didnt mean to start everyone arguing with one another about hippies vs. rich people, i've just never heard of this and wanted to know what it was.

The silicon valley set now loves them some burning man, and they're basically hiring people to go and set up a camp for them and then hang out and be waited on the whole time.
As soon as P Diddy stepped foot at Burning Man in 2011, it was all over

It's actually pretty libertarian in nature originally. John Perry Barlow (a founder of BM) and a lot of the old school EFF, cyberpunk, maker society types are pretty libertarian/anarhcist.

I wasn't impressed. How much mescaline is necessary for me to give a shite?

What actually goes on at Burning Man? Hippie fest with LSD and weed being served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

Geeky maker stuff is a big part of it. Creating insane art installations, performances, happenings.
Think of tailgating and how people compete to have the best setup. BM is like a week of that on steroids and with really geeky, smart artsy punks competing to have the coolest camps and installations.
And yes. Drugs.
Stuff like: let's bring a 3d printer and see if we can rig it out on solar power and print up crazy trinkets to trade and give to people.

Finally going to Bonnaroo for the first time next year. Staying in a camper so I wont be a dirty hippy
Part of the fun of Bonnaroo is living like a dirty hippie for 3 days. I even had sex in a tent after taking copious amounts of different drugs. Great times.

Krewe of Chewbaccus is making their own "burning man" festival here in the next month or so. It's going to be somewhere around NO. If you go to their FB page, you can find out more about it. They will burn a giant chewbacca.

I've been twice.. It's a fricking blast.
FYI... bring enough alcohol for 2 weeks and don't bring drugs. The drugs are too easy to buy once on the grounds.
