Just had a call from someone claiming to be my grandchild and needing help, I have no grandchildren. This is one of many scams these people try, see CBS story from last year linked. If you do have grandparents who could be susceptible to this type of thing you might want to warn them.
CBS news - grandparent scam

The scam begins with something most grandparents don't get enough of -- a phone call from a grandchild -- or so the caller says. But it almost always ends with a desperate plea for money, and the criminal CBS News met used to be on the other end of the line.

Happened to a coworker of mine. Her grandmother, I mean. She knew the granddaughter's name too. Got like 800 bucks.

Man, times like this make me super happy that grandparents are dead.

Happened to my mom about a week ago. Someone called, told her my oldest son was in a car accident and they had to fly him via helio to the nearest hospital.
They needed her credit card information for him to get treatment because they couldn't reach me or my wife to verify insurance.
Happened to a lady n the office as well, similar scenario.

My actual cousin does this to my grandmother. He's a POS too.

Sucks for the con artist if the grandparent hates all of their shitty, greedy grandchildren.

They hit up my 86yo grandmother all of the time. She's sharpwitted and doesn't fall for it.

They have tried that on my grandfather a few times over the past few years. He just fricks with their head. Always pulls something like "hold on let me find my hearing aid" then sets the phone down and sees how long they'll stay on the line. Some of them have been pretty dedicated

My grandmother who lives in Mississippi who I don't see often got a call saying I was in jail and needed bail money. This was maybe 10 years ago when I was in high school.
Luckily she had the sense to call my mom and make sure I wasn't in jail. Old people are gullible.
