Punxsutawney Phil is a grifter. He’s only right 40% of the time

Well. Louisiana winter has accounted for two days with a couple hours below freezing. Guess y’all are excited for 99 degree days again?
I don’t get the excitement.

Phil is about 40% accurate. Go flip a coin and you'll have a better chance of being right.

Anyone keeping stats on this oversized beaver that they pull out a hole and show for a display then put the beaver’s mouth near their ear as though it is talking to him and proclaim if he saw his shadow or not?
While I am no animal rights activist, just flipping a coin would suffice.
Heck maybe the town can get a deal from a casino and when the announcement is made they spin a huge slot machine and the pay table is what the “forecast” is. They can even get crafty instead of just six weeks of winter they can do certain number.
Reel 1 Shadow or not, Reel 2 number of weeks, and Reel 3 probability of forecast; the Las Vegas Punxsutawney Phil.

How high on shrooms were the first guys who decided to gauge spring’s arrival based on whether a damn groundhog saw his shadow when exiting a den?

If all our traditions, Groundhog Day has always baffled me as to how it became such a big thing.
